Snowdonia, a Welsh Landscape Photography Adventure

A scenic view of North Wales

Discovering the Fascinating Castles of Wales

Seen in this image is Beaumaris Castle in North Wales. Known as the ‘Land of Castles’, Wales does indeed offer more than its fair share of captivating landscapes. Snowdonia is a fantastic place for landscape photography, from the rugged coastlines to the towering mountains. Snowdonia is certainly a feast for the eyes. It’s not just the natural beauty that draws visitors; it’s the deep-rooted history in the form of its magnificent castles. One such marvel is Beaumaris Castle, situated in the scenic town of Beaumaris, on the Isle of Anglesey. With its symmetrical concentric design and the tranquil waters of the Menai Strait serving as its backdrop. So you could say that Beaumaris Castle looks like something straight out of a fairy tale. But the history behind this stunning fortress is as gripping as its appearance.

There’s an indescribable thrill in capturing the essence of a place that has stood the test of time. Capturing Snowdonia’s castles combined challenge and joy, embodying the spirit of landscape photography. With every shot, I attempted to encapsulate the structure and the tales it might have witnessed. What was life like behind these magnificent structures and the battles it might have withstood. Hence the play of natural light on ancient stone, the textures of weathered walls, make for compelling compositions.

The Gelert Express: An Unexpected Photography Adventure at Rhyd Ddu

Picture this: A fantastic photography opportunity, a verdant Snowdonia landscape. The unmistakable sound of a steam engine chugging its way along the tracks. That was the setting on a memorable day when I had the great fortune to be at the right place and time. With a camera in hand, I was ready to capture this moment. The Welsh Highland Railway, famed for its collection of iconic steam engines, is a paradise for train enthusiasts and photographers alike. Snowdonia certainly has a varied abundance of landscape and unparalleled photography opportunities.

Departure time neared, I positioned myself at an opportune spot, aiming to capture the moment the locomotive would thunder away. The engine roared, steam enveloped the platform, and with a dramatic flair, the Gelert Express began its journey. The train driver was certainly happy for me to photograph this scene as he waved from the engines cabin.

Snowdonia Landscape Photography

During our Snowdonia exploration, we toured many sites, including Snowdon itself. We uncovered routes showcasing waterfalls, lakes, and even captured the renowned Crib Goch. Snowdonia’s wonders are perfect for landscape photography, from its majestic castles to the drivable Black Rock Sands beach. The region offered an endless abundance of photo opportunities.

As a photographer, every corner of Snowdonia felt like a treasure trove. Whether it was the morning mist dancing over the valleys or the golden hue of sunset kissing the mountaintops. There was always a new frame waiting to be captured. It’s a place that keeps giving, and I know I’ve only just scratched the surface.

Scotland’s Highlands and Lochs Landscape Photography

Photographing Scotland’s amazing landscape

Our Scottish Landscape Photography Trip

Photographic Creations presents our first Scottish Landscape Photography trip. This was our first-ever trip to Scotland, and I wasn’t surprised to see such a fantastic landscape. We knew there would be a few wet days, so we made the most of it. We were staying at a caravan park on the shore of Loch Leven in Glencoe. Where we had set up our caravan was right by the loch and perfect for early morning Landscape photographs of this stunning Loch. As you can see in the image above, the view was out of this world. What a sight to wake up to each morning.

The Scottish landscape around us, with the magnificent mountains, gave me the perfect opportunity to get some great photographs. Scotland has always been my go-to place to get some great landscape photographs. So we ventured out every day. However, only some days were ideal for taking pictures. Still, as you can imagine, there’s bound to be some rough weather in Scotland. Between that, and when the sun showed its face, there were quite a few opportune moments where I captured some rather moody Scottish landscape shots. When the heavy rain does stop, it can change a photograph altogether; misty and low cloud levels can change an image just like that.

Our adventure carried on

This was a family holiday, so our venture was for more than just a Scottish landscape photography trip. However, I do carry my camera equipment near enough everywhere I go. So when an opportunity arrives to take a shot, my family are very understanding, well, most of the time. We ventured to Glenfinnan and Glenfinnan Viaduct, where we saw the Harry Potters Hogwarts Express Train to the stunning Castles of Scotland. Castle Stalker is just one of many castles in Scotland; we viewed this historical structure while on our way to Oban, a seaside town on the west coast of Scotland. My daughter wanted to play in the loch, trying to catch fish and crabs, although caution was needed as the lochs are sea lochs. If you’re not observant, you can easily step on jellyfish, which there was a large abundance of.

It was a fun holiday for all, with plenty of walking and of course plenty of landscape photographs to capture like Ben Nevis, for instance, and where they filmed some scenes of Highlander and the Highlander Village near Glen Nevis, a valley just southeast of Fort William. All in all, a great time was had by all, the kids had fun, and I came back happy with some great Scottish landscape photographs. Happy days.

The image above was taken near The Three Sisters of Glencoe and the Image to the the right is of Coe River Waterfall in Glencoe.

Hadrian’s Wall

We had only just moved to Cumbria, mainly to be near The Lake District. However, we thought we would venture elsewhere and see other amazing sights. This trip took us to Hadrian’s Wall and Birdoswald Roman Fort. History has always been a passion of mine, and along with my love for photography, I was in my element. We are certainly spoilt for the choice of places to visit, and as a landscape photographer, I couldn’t be any happier to be able to photograph this incredible landscape. This is aย  photograph I took along Hadrian’s wall as we made our way to the Roman Fort. It is fascinating that something so old is still standing; this is why history intrigues me. Seeing this was a family day out, we had the kids with us and they had a whale of a time, jumping up and down on the wall and rocks. I was still able to get a few photographs. You can see more of this fantastic day out in our gallery.

Bastle House Birdoswald Roman Fort

This was a fantastic day out, with so much to see and do. The weather was also very kind to us so that I could take plenty of photographs. Having such stunning beauty right on our doorstep is just amazing. The kids enjoyed learning how they used to live many years ago with information boards dotted around giving them an insight into what life was like for the local population and the Romans themselves. It was wonderful to capture all this on camera, and you can view this and other trips we have made around the UK in our gallery. We will continue our travels looking for new locations to photograph. Birdoswald Roman Fort is just a fraction of what is out there. At Photographic Creations, we aim to keep Britain alive through our photographs. All photographs are available to purchase as a print, framed print or a download, whether to print yourself or as a wallpaper background for your computer. The list is endless. We hope you enjoy viewing our selection of photographs from around the UK as much as we have enjoyed taking them.

Photographing Cumbria’s Castles: A Grand Day Out Among Timeless Treasures

Brougham Castle and Brough Castle Cumbrian Landscape Photography

Brougham Castle from a distance

photographs of Cumbrian Castles

Photographic Creations invites you on a captivating journey through time. My passion for history fuels my desire to explore these ancient wonders. My main aim for this visit was to capture photographs of this stunning Cumbrian castle. It’s truly awe-inspiring to witness how these grand structures have withstood the test of time. Upon arrival at the medieval castle, I was immediately struck by the vision of the perfect photograph. The sight before me was nothing short of breathtaking, a testament to the ingenuity and architectural prowess of those who built this magnificent edifice so many years ago. As a photographer, this gave me such a fantastic chance to photograph Brougham Castle in all its splendour. It was a real shame, though, that we were not able to photograph inside the castle. However, from this image of the castle, you do get an idea of the magnificence of this historical structure.
I captured this photograph of Brougham Castle from the vantage point of Brougham Castle Bridge, constructed in 1813.

It was a magical day with blue skies and fluffy white clouds. This also added to the image of this wonderful castle. After walking around and being mesmerised by its splendour, we moved on to Brough Castle, just 20 minutes away.

Looking up at Brough Castle

Photograph of Brough Castle

To be honest, this sight took me by surprise. The castle’s size was impressive, with the ruins appearing more prominent than those at Brougham Castle. Here at Brough Castle, I could truly grasp the layout, and I managed to capture more photographs, as showcased in our gallery. The Keep’s preservation amazed me. However a walk around the back revealed that some parts hadn’t withstood the test of time, with fallen remains scattered on the ground below. Brough Castle was certainly a picture, and I waisted no time capturing the stunning magnificence of this wonderous medieval structure. Once we finished our tranquil lunch while taking in the stunning views, and after I had snapped a generous collection of castle photographs, we set off to explore the area further.

As a history enthusiast I was captivated by this buildings history, and what it was like for the people of this era to live here. Wondering around the ruins, I failed to hold back my temptation to take more photographs, as more images caught my eye. Even for those not into photography, the sheer splendour of this historic Cumbrian landmark makes it well worth a visit.

Photographs showcasing the Crossley 14. A timeless Journey and the Pursuit of Automotive History

Image

The story of one man’s journey to revive the Legacy of his Grandfather’s Crossley 14

The Road to Thirlmere

The recreation had been planned for some time, but the road leading to the site had been closed for a significant period, making access impossible. Chris and his team needed to capture the photos before the vegetation came into leaf and obscured the view of the lake. Additionally, Chris had been working on an extensive rebuild of the Crossley 14 and had only recently completed the restoration.

A Faded Photograph and an Obsession: Chris’s fascination with the Crossley 14 began when he discovered a faded, old photograph, which he later restored to the best of his ability. This image served as the inspiration for the recreation he was currently undertaking. The photo sparked his interest in the vintage vehicle and reminded him of his father’s stories about the car.

A twist of fate: As Chris became increasingly obsessed with Crossley 14s due to the photograph and his father’s tales, a Crossley 14 came onto the market in Denton, Manchester. Interestingly, the car had spent its entire life in the Manchester area. Chris knew he had to own it and seized the opportunity to purchase the vintage beauty. Chris Spencer’s story of the Crossley 14 and his connection to his family legacy is a testament to the power of nostalgia and the emotional connections we form with objects from our past. The dedication and effort put into restoring the car and recreating the century-old photograph is a remarkable tribute to his family’s history. As we appreciate the stunning results of his labour, we are reminded of the importance of cherishing and preserving our own family memories and legacies.

Photograph of a Crossley 14 taken almost 100 years ago

Every so often, we encounter stories that captivate our imagination and stir a sense of nostalgia. This is one of those stories – a tale of a photograph, an old car, and the connection to a family legacy. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a group of people led by Chris Spencer. He was recreating an iconic photograph with his fully restored Crossley 14. Intrigued by the stunning car, I asked Chris if I could photograph it as well. He agreed and began sharing the fascinating story behind the vehicle and its significance in his family history. I was very proud to be given the opportunity to capture these photographs of his beautifully restored Crossley 14.

The Crossley 14 and a Family Legacy: Chris told me that the original Crossley 14 in the photograph was owned by his grandfather, who passed away 12 years before he was born. The photo shows his grandfather’s car parked on the roadside near Thirlmere in the Lake District. Chris and his team were attempting to recreate the original photograph, taken nearly a century ago, with a fully restored Crossley 14.

The Crossley 14: A Testament to the Splendour of Automotive Heritage

I was very proud to have the chance to photograph this historic automotive beauty. I also had the opportunity to sit in this ageless marvel which is an unforgettable experience I will always cherish. Typically, vehicles of this vintage are displayed in museums, where exhibits remain off-limits to touch, let alone to sit in. I am immensely grateful to Chris for granting me this rare privilege. Also a huge thank you to Chris for letting us take these photographs of such a stunning piece of automotive history. This will be a day that I will treasure.

Castlerigg Stone Circle Derwentwater and Borrowdale

Winter Landscape Photography in the Beautiful Lake District

The beauty of Lake District Winter Landscape Photography

Lake District landscape winter photography. Here in the the Lake District you can tell beyond a doubt that it is definitely one of the most stunning places on earth, and what a perfect opportunity I had to capture these beautiful landscape photographs on camera. This was a fantastic day out, planned instead at short notice. So we needed to figure out what the weather would be like. However, as you can see in our photographs, the weather, indeed, was on our side. It was cold that day, and I could hardly feel my fingers, but it was worth it. As a landscape photographer, this is just magic. I saw the snow scattered over this majestic landscape and knew it would make a good photograph. Castlerigg Stone Circle has to be one of my favourite places to go as a photographer, especially for Lake District winter landscape photography.

The Stunning Lake District in Winter

Above is an image I took from Seatoller in the Borrowdale Valley, showing Glaramara and Allen Crags’s snow-capped summits in their glory. I have always aimed to do some Lake District winter photography so this was just a fantastic moment for me. The photograph here was taken later in the day; the sun was hitting the fells in just the right spot. In the image to your right is a winter photograph of Skiddaw looking across from an instead flooded Derwentwater, giving me some fantastic reflections in the water. Our journey took us along the Borrowdale Valley, intending to find snow on these stunning Lake District fells. Unfortunately, finding snow here can be hit or miss, so it is well worth checking to see what the weather will be like before you plan your journey.

We had followed the weather forecast a few days before heading to the Lakes. However, the weather In the Lake District can change just like that, as we all know if you’re a regular visitor. All in all, what a fantastic day out and came home with some beautiful winter photographs of the Lake District. However, it was cold, but who cares when you see views like this? Enjoy.

A Photographic Journey through Borrowdale

Cumbrian landscape photography, Photographs and prints of the stunning Lake District

View our collection of our Lakeland photographs from Borrowdale

Welcome to our breathtaking Lake District Photography adventure in the enchanting Borrowdale Valley. The Lake District is a photographer’s dream, with its awe-inspiring mountains, serene lakes, and majestic waterfalls. As a landscape photographer, I find immense joy in capturing the stunning beauty of the Lake District’s picturesque scenery. On a gorgeous summer day, with our daughter at school, my partner and I seized the opportunity to embark on a Lake District Photography expedition through the mesmerizing Borrowdale Valley. Our Lakeland Photography adventure commenced in Keswick, which is our usual starting point, and allowed us to stock up on sandwiches and drinks for our journey. It was such a lovely day and I was eager to Photograph this wonderful landscape.

We proceeded along the captivating Borrowdale Valley, eventually turning onto a single-track road leading to the charming Ashness Bridge. Although the bridge is somewhat narrow and requires caution while crossing, it offers a spectacular view of the Lake District’s Borrowdale Valley. A National Trust car park nearby provides a convenient spot to pause and capture some incredible photographs that Cumbrian landscape photography has to offer

Here’s a photograph I took of the historic Ashness Bridge, nestled just above the breathtaking Borrowdale Valley in the Lake District. Lake District Prints are available on our website.

Our Photography trip continues along Borrowdale in the stunning Lake District

We then continued our journey to Surprise view. Again there is parking, and you only have to cross the road to see this fantastic scenery from a cliff-edge viewpoint. You will likely guess how it gained its name. I suggest you take extra caution here since it is a shear drop down to the valley below. However, the views you get from this viewpoint are outstanding and stunning to photograph. The view here is just fantastic and Surprise View gives you one of the best views in the Lakes. This superb Lake District view point gives you extensive views of the Borrowdale Valley and it certainly makes for a wonderful photograph.

Here is a photograph I took of Lake District’s picturesque scenery, capturing Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake and Keswick in the distance. It was such a wonderful day, and the clouds looked superb. For the little effort needed to get here, well what a view. I often come to Borrowdale to photograph this fantastic scenery, one of my favourite areas of the Lake District. Moving on from here we then headed to Watendlath another Picturesque scene ideal for Lakeland photography.

You can purchase any of these Lake District photograph prints straight from our website.
